Lors de l'enregistrement de "Hotel California" aux Criteria Studios de Miami, les membres des Eagles ont dû interrompre plusieurs fois leur travail en raison du bruit intense provenant du studio voisin, où Black Sabbath enregistrait son album "Technical Ecstasy". Cette interférence sonore a particulièrement affecté l'enregistrement de "The Last Resort", contraignant le groupe à le réenregistrer à plusieurs reprises. Le titre "Hotel California" a été composé par Don Felder, Don Henley et Glenn Frey.
