À propos de la chanson

En 1988, à 3 heures du matin, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole a appelé le studio d'enregistrement de Milan Bertosa, demandant une session immédiate. Bertosa lui a accordé 15 minutes pour arriver. Lorsqu'Israel est arrivé, pesant environ 500 livres, un agent de sécurité lui a trouvé une grande chaise en acier pour s'asseoir. Après un rapide réglage du son, il a interprété "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" en une seule prise, sans répétition.
